The Jacobite Steam Train

September 7, 2025

Gwyn made breakfast this morning. My neck has been bothering me the last few weeks, and still is. We met Rilla and Jeremy at 6:43 and headed to the Edinburgh Bus Station.

Our tour driver/guide is Alistair. Our first stop was the Fishers Hotel for a pit stop, and a quick walk around the pretty town. We next travelled to Spar for another pit stop. We then continued to Speanbridge for another stop. The countryside is beautiful as we headed towards the Highlands.

Our next stop was the Glenfinnan Viaduct viewpoint and walked up the hill for a nice view. We would be crossing over the viaduct later on our train trip. Back on the bus to Mallaig for our Jacobite Steam Train ride. Stopped in the Mallaig Co-Op and found a sandwich for me and a salad for Gwyn, and some yummy red grapes. Walked over to the train and waited for Alistair to tell us our seat assignment and boarded.

Again lots of beautiful scenery as we glided across the tracks. Our bus was waiting for us in Fort William, and we walked to where it was waiting for us in the Lidl car parking lot. The Green Welly Stop was next, and we got baked potatoes for supper. A quick stop to see Hamish and Honey again, and then continued onto Edinburgh.

A long day, but a good day despite my neck giving me issues.
